Microsoft teams up with Kayak for travel search
Do you like this story?
Microsoft Corp. said Friday it is improving its Bing search website by teaming up with travel search provider Kayak.com.
Kayak aggregates information from airlines, hotels, rental car companies and other travel service providers. Microsoft said that in the coming weeks, Kayak will provide search results in the U.S. from multiple cities, airports and airlines for Bing's travel search section.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Kayak and Microsoft are both members of FairSearch, an organization that is opposing Google's $700 million buyout of the company whose software powers the reservation system of most major U.S. airlines -- and online fare-comparison services such as Kayak and Bing. The U.S. Justice Department is expected to decide soon whether to let Google Inc.'s acquisition of ITA Software to proceed.
Microsoft, Kayak, Travelocity, Expedia Inc. and other FairSearch members say Google buying ITA would limit competition and result in higher fares and fewer options for searching for flights.
